Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home

Hot Springs won the selection for the site of the State Soldier’s Home largely because of its warm, dry climate, and clean fresh air. The beautifully manicured lawns at the Home are the site of the annual Easter-egg hunt and a favorite sledding spot in the winter. Follow Minnekahta St. directly west.

Veterans Administration Medical Center

Veterans Administration Medical Center

The VA Medical Center (originally known as the Battle Mountain Sanitorium) is located directly east of the Resort. Hike the Grand Staircase for an up-close view of the buildings’ architecture and a bird’s-eye view of the city.

Battle Mountain Lookout

Battle Mountain Lookout

A moderately strenuous hike or a 4-wheel drive vehicle brings you to the top of Battle Mountain for a glorious view of the valley below. Legend has it the Cheyenne and the Sioux fought here for rights to the warm water.

Butler Park

Butler Park

This city park was originally created for playing polo. It’s now used for tennis, T-ball, baseball and soccer during city-sponsored summer recreation programs in addition to the annual 4th of July fireworks. Its southern end is the future site of the new Hot Springs library and affords a great view of the Seven Sisters mountain range.

Located 12 miles southwest of Hot Springs on Hwy 71, these natural springs falling over river rock provide a unique swimming spot in a beautifully natural setting.
