SPA MINNEKAHTA
Minnekahta means "warm water" in the language of the Lakota Sioux and is carved in the original sandstone on the front of our historic building. Enjoy this unique spa facility as either an overnight guest or day spa patron. Soak in our whirlpool hot tub or de-stress with a cleansing sweat in the Norwegian White Spruce Sauna. Lounge in our Korean-style heat rooms where the gently heated sand or granite floor revives tired muscles and aching feet. Take time to reflect as you sip a cup of tea following a massage or before retiring for the night. We regret the Spa is not wheelchair accessible; it is located on the second floor and there is no elevator. .

Hallways
Gently heated floor tiles warm your bare feet between spa rooms. The hot water radiant heat system continues in the floor of the sand and granite heat rooms, designed and installed by local plumber Trent Johnson.
Granite
Heat Room
Soak up healthful Far Infrared Rays (FIR) as you sit, lie or lounge on our South Dakota Granite heated to approximately 105-110° F. As you feel yourself deeply relax, enjoy the rainbow of brilliant colors cast by lead crystal chandeliers on the earth-toned walls and deep blue ceiling. Since FIR energy wavelengths are so close to the heat wavelengths of the human body, theyre easily absorbed into the body. This promotes a state of deep comfort and relaxation with benefits for muscles, bones, joints, internal organs and glands.
Sand
Heat Room
Experience our in-spa beach as you lounge on warm sand without the worry of a sunburn. Sink your hips and bones into a 4-inch deep layer of Cheyenne River sand covered with cloth and heated to approximately 115-120° F. The Far Infrared Rays (FIR) emitted by the heated sand are easily transmitted and readily absorbed into the body. This promotes a state of deep comfort and relaxation with benefits for muscles, bones, joints, internal organs and glands.
Dry
Sauna
For over 2000 years the Finns have enjoyed benefits of sauna bathing as a way to relax, feel good and improve health. Our traditional sauna (heated with lava rocks from Finland) is lined with light-grained Nordic White Spruce and fitted with benches and back rests of Abachi white wood (comfortable even at high temperatures and splinter-free). The white spruce combined with the all-glass door create a clean, light environment for de-toxing.
Shower
Enjoy the spacious shower located conveniently near the sauna and hot tub. Take a cleansing shower before entering the hot tub and create your own hydrotherapy by alternating a 30-second cool rinse with 10-20 minutes sessions in the sauna. Dual showerheads make it an ideal shower for couples.
The stored sunshine in the French-door entrance is only a hint of the warmth waiting inside. Step in, inhale the moist fragrant air and enter the out-of-this-world place that is Spa Minnekahta. Warm earth-tone walls accented with flower hues perfectly compliment the high gloss of the wood floor, carefully restored by George Uhl, a local craftsman.
Women's Room
Raspberry-colored walls and floral accents clearly mark this territory feminine. This restroom and changing area includes two sinks, large mirrors, plush towels, complimentary bath items and a large, private walk-in shower.
Men's Room
A light and airy restroom and changing area that even has manly sailboat pictures. The perfect place to spruce up after a spa session or treatment. Includes sink, mirror, plush towels, complimentary bath items and a large, private walk-in shower.
Window Seat
Had enough heat? Snuggle into cozy cushions and relax by the window. Bring a book or some tea, put up your feet and daydream.
